Big day again today. Left Strahan at 7.30am for our trip to Cradle Mountain National Park. Arrived at the Park at 10.00am. Parked our car and got the mini bus out to Dove Lake which took 20mins. We decided just to do the 6km walk around Lake Dove which took just over two hours. When we arrived we thought that the day wasn't looking too good, cloud over the top of Cradle Mountain and high cloud everywhere. But fortunately about mid way round the lake the sun started to shine clouds started to thin out and it became very hot and sunny as you will see by our photos. After our walk we had some lunch and continued our journey to our next destination at Penguin for the next three nights. This place is right up on the North coast. So started our trip at the bottom of Hobart and now at the top.We are using this as base and going to do daily trips from here in different directions. We left the mountains about 2.30pm and arrived at Penguin just before 4.00pm. The change in temperature was amazing from the south. We arrived feeling exhausted from all our walking ,then the heat hit us.
We left Strahan, drove up the west through Zeehan a historical town. Great old buildings.
Few old trains on display in the Main Street.
Kept driving through Rosebery and further on getting nearer the mountain we stopped at this lookout which looked along the valley with the mountains in the background.
Arrived at Dove Lake below Cradle Mountain. Weather not looking too good, quite cool and looked like rain was threatening so off we set with our jackets all prepared.
I started out in shorts and tee shirt and PT in jeans and a thick jacket. I just think of a long walk and feel hot, whereas PT thinks mountains and feels cold.
One of the small beaches on the lake. As you can see it's looking gloomy
The boardwalks are very good. But a lot of stone paths as well.
We even saw the boys out paddling.
The bush walks
We have now passed half way and a peep of sun. Looking over to Cradle mountain.
Looking over to the other side of the lake with its stoney mountains. Notice that the sun is out and yes, it's getting very hot.
Now to the famous boat shed. Ten minutes from the end of the 6km walk. Exhausted.
One more small hill to climb, looking back at the boat shed.
Nearly at the end of the walk, looking back at the mountain.
Well we made it,a beautiful place and we were so glad that we could get this last photo with the sun out.
The name Cradle Mountain came about as if you look very close to the cradle between the two mountains from the left you can see a baby's head with its dummy, tummy and knees lying in its cradle.

Leaving the mountain we drove over some very nice farmland and countryside all very tidy and lush.

The rich colour of this volcanic soil is good for growing produce.

Arrived at our accommodation called Penguin Waterfront Escape just across from the beach. Sure good to see the ocean again. Nice big deck.
The kitchen lounge, dining area.
Looking out from inside. A nice place to spend the next three nights. Beautiful.
