Penguin... 19th March.

In case you missed the late two posts ( 17th & 18th) due to wi fi conditions, I posted them earlier today so scroll back to older posts if you missed them.

Today we headed out to Stanley for the day which sits up on a peninsular in the North West corner of Tassie. Woke up to a dreadful day, pouring with rain but decided that we would go regardless . It's better to see it in bad conditions rather not seeing it at all. We were hoping to see the beautiful scenic drive along the northern coast but couldn't see much at all. We just kept saying hopefully it will improve for the return trip. The weather is so changeable we usually get at least half of a day with some sun.

Our first stop was a town called Wynyard near the coast. We went to the info centre to see Wonders of Wynyard which is a display of so many old cars which were all in immaculate condition. There must have been a less  15 to 17 cars all up. These next few photos are for the boys...

The old BOWSER pump
Pop tells Cody about going down to the Bowser Station to fill up with Benzine. Jen show Cody.

After we left the cars we did the loop road  around Table Cape from Wynyard. This is the weather we started of with.

This is taken from a photo to show what  Table Cape looks like. Rugged cliff face with the crashing sea below and would have been amazing views.

The approach to The Nut at Stanley our destination for the day. A mixture of weather out there as you will see with the photos rain and sun. The Nut was a unique Volcano.

A drive through the small town with all its historic houses. The Nut in the background.

Down at the fishing boat harbour and below. Weather a bit gloomy here.

Raining very windy and cold, decided a good fix is the local seafood takaway to warm us up. Yummy.

Continued our drive around

Drove up the hill behind Stanley to take these shots.

Now on our way back to Penguin, drove out to the Rocky  Cape National Park. And it is just that very rocky coastline. This photo was taken a lot higher than it looks just near the lighthouse. It was so windy and trying to lean over the cliff to take the photo was a balancing act.

Looking over the other side from the lighthouse. You have to pay for entering the national parks so we got a $60 pass for the time we were here although they last for two months.  We have used it three times so far and have two more to see. Each pass individually are about $19 so it pays to get a pass.

Along the coast a little further is Boat Harbour Beach. A beautiful spot. Lots of campers free camping. We are in the sun but look what's coming in the background.

Boat Harbour Beach.

Looking the other way. We were lucky to see this place in the sun.

Tayla this one is for you. In the playgroung opposite us in this place called Penguin.

This was our last stop for the day on our way back to Penguin. On then way the rain caught up with us quite heavy but by the time we reached Penguin it was fine again. As I have said the weather is all over the place. A bit of everything in a day but it sounds like it might be improving over the next few days. Off to Launceston tomorrow so could be a big drive with a few diversions  depending on the weather otherwise it could be a quick trip but nothing is quick in our itinerary.
